JOB OVERVIEW

To provide health and safety guidance and training to the production operatives in our factory and be responsible for maintaining, arranging and delivering inductions, refresher training and toolbox talks.

OBJECTIVES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Induct new factory starts to ensure they understand the risks, methods and standards expected when working at Oregon.
  • Coordinate training from start to final competency and maintain records.
  • Update and maintain the Employee Training passports and training matrices to ensure accurate records are kept with associated paperwork.
  • Carry out face fit testing to all new employees.
  • Provide H&S advice and guidance to all employees, if required.
  • Attend H&S meetings and provide data in relation to training and competency.
  • Carry out training and toolbox talks and ensure all understand the standards expected.
  • Record incidents and complete accident investigation reports on behalf of Head of SHE.
  • Compile and review RA and COSHH assessments for the factory
  • Assist the Factory Manager, as required with any other documentation, administration, training and projects.
  • Ensure all first aid boxes and H&S signage is up to date and accurate.
  • Promote a positive health and safety culture throughout Oregon. Establish, build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders within the wider Oregon family in addition to key external bodies.
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement on existing training.
What you'll need?
To be successful in the role, we are looking for:
 

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE

  • Previous experience of preparing and delivering training modules and tool box talks.
  • Train the trainer.
  • Membership of IOSH.
  • NEBOSH Construction certified or working towards.
  • You must have a current driving licence and use of a personal car for work related usage. The car must be insured for business use.

KEY ATTRIBUTES / QUALITIES

Essential

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Self-motivated and positive attitude.
  • Through knowledge and understanding of H&S legislation and procedures.
  • Strong planning and delivery skills.
  • Good working knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams and any other software required for the role.
  • Able and willing to work flexibly to suit the needs and demands of the role.  This may involve working different hours/days to accommodate shift working and potentially travel away from home if required to visit alternatives factory sites.

Desirable (training can be provided if required)

  • Manufacturing industry experience.
  • Experience of supervising or managing people.
  • A sound appreciation of Health & Safety practices (e.g., risk assessments, accident investigations, induction and training etc).

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Has a good Knowledge and understanding of H&S in a manufacturing environment, with the ability to use skill and judgment in problem solving to work things out and apply them to real situations.  Has strong IT skills, knowledge and understanding of H&S management systems and standards.

Supports, encourages and develops employees to embrace H&S and proactively contributes to creating a strong H&S culture. Is confident, considered and takes ownership for H&S training and performance. Is self-aware, resilient, optimistic and has a collaborative approach to working. A self-starter who is able to motivate others. 

Has strong planning skills with the ability to handle multiple projects through to completion and to manage competing priorities. Has highly developed interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate to a diverse range of people, as will need to communicate, support and train employees at all levels in relation to H&S and risk.
